When The Husband is Away…….

When The Husband Is Away…….

When the husband is away what little games do you LIKE to play?

For those of you who were thinking about naughty things, I would like to say shame on you! This is a not that kind of article but if you have some things to share, we will let you publish it anonymously. Just remember not to sign your name on the article.

My husband is a frequent traveler. When I was in the states, there were times when he was away for weeks at a time. When my husband is away I live by a whole other set of rules. What do you do when your husband is away? You use away 3 xs. Can you find a synonym?

First of all, I don’t have to cook, make the bed, pick up my curlers, or even get out of my pajamas on the weekend. My child and I eat out most nights. And I always treat myself to a nice bottle of wine that I don’t have to share.

So what would you do if the husband and the children were away?

Party with the Girls

There is nothing like a husband to spoil a  fun time with just the girls. When the husband is away, time to locate that password to Evite.com and invite the girls over for a party. Don’t feel guilty, babysitting is not an illegal activity for men. I know that some of us have been brainwashed to believe it is illegal.

Think about it, wouldn’t it be a good night to see your friends? After all, they haven’t been out as long as you, so don’t we all deserve a break? You can get back to diaper duty tomorrow. When you go to the store you don’t have to pick up a six pack of beer.  Instead,  you can buy  the cute cocktails without being teased. My favorite cocktail that I like to serve with friends is the Appletini. It is simple and so darn good.

Appletini Drink Recipe

1 -2 shoots of Vodka

½ ounce of Apple Pucker

½ ounce of Apple Juice

Crushed Ice

Cocktail Shaker

Cherries or Thinly Sliced Apples

Martini Glasses

Put crushed ice into your cocktail shaker. Add Vodka, Pucker, and Apple Juice. Shake it a little. I prefer mine really cold so I like to  put my hips into it. Pour into your martini glasses and garnish with thinly sliced apple or cherries.

Pamper Yourself

So now that you have the girls over, you have to do something to set yourself apart from the boys. Consider hiring someone to come in for manicures and pedicures. You can Google Spa Parties in your area. Most of them require that you have a least 5 or more people. If you live in the Washington DC area, there is one called Celebrating You The Spa. You might want to discuss cost with your friends prior to the event if you are sharing the expense.

A Good Meal in Your Slippers

It is fun to go out but sometimes it is just nice to sit around with the girls and reminisce about the days before marriage, children, in-laws, and a huge mortgage. Consider hiring a personal chef for the evening to come in and prepare a meal for you and your friends. A good option in the Washington DC area is N’JOY Personal Chef Service, L.L.C… If you don’t live in the  DC area, you can Google personal chefs in your area. If you live in a metropolitan area, you will probably have a lot more options to choose from.

A Catered Cocktail Party

There is nothing more fun that having someone greet (oops, sorry – you had it right) your guests with cocktails at the door. Remember that little black dress in the back of your closet. You know the one that I am speaking of –  you wore it many eons ago.…. I know it has been a long time. Why not hire a mobile bar service and have it come to your home. Google mobile bar services in your area.

A Wine Tasting

All my friends know that I am a wine girl. I love my wine as long as it is not cheap. I have been trying to learn about wines. My friend Bryan Smith is a wine expert and over the past few months has been educating us on different wines. If you live in the Washington DC area, you could contact Bryan for a private wine tasting. Bryan is a wine expert. He would be able to educate your guests on different wines and food pairings.

Cocktail Party on Budget

If you would like to hire someone to give you some ideas on a cocktail party, consider hiring a consultant. Did you know that you could have a phone consultation with an expert who would prepare a list of cocktails and food pairings? The consultation would be followed by a PDF file containing food pairings, wine and  cocktail list along with recipes and your shopping list. This service starts at $59.95.  Everything is provided for you.  All you would have to do  is get in your car and head to your local supermarket. If you mention that you are a RMC reader, you will receive 20% off the service. Damion Tarpley is an expert in the field. Damion is the owner of Dr. BarStool. It is a full bar service that caterers to clientele in the Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC area.

Getting together with the girls is a fun thing to do. Some other ideas to consider for party ideas are

  1.  Pot lucks
  2.  Book Clubs
  3. Pizza Night
  4. Clothing Swap
  5. Jewelry Party
  6. Scrapbooking

Whatever you chose to do will be fun because you are with the girls and anytime you are with the girls it is an awesome time.

When you are planning your party if there is alcohol involved

remember to be responsible!!!!!

1. Consider asking friends to share a taxi

2. Arrange with spouses to pick up and/or drive your guests home

3. Consider making it a slumber party (no, you are not too old!)

So the next time your husband is away and you want to play. Consider planning a girl’s night in…….

  • If hubby is away I always hang out with friends with my son doing shopping , or sometimes we cook different kinds of food in my friends house or they would come over to our house and cook something for everyone. My hubby is such a picky eater, so I just dont fix the food that I want if hes there, and I take advantage of it when he’s gone. And I do shopping when he is away, cuz no ones gonna rush me or gonna complain that I am taking so long. LOL

    • Hi Jerlan,

It is funny because I think that most people love to shop when their partner is away. I love having friends over when my spouse is away. I feel like I can be myself and I don’t have to entertain, we can just hang out and enjoy ourselves.

    • Natalie,

I miss the days of being able to hang with the girls a bit. That is something that I have been thinking about, I need to get back together with the girls when I get back to the states. Living in the UK has taught me that you have to make time for friends.

  • Love the sound of the Appletini!

    • Hi Rochelle, Thank you so much. And thank you for stopping by the site.

Appletini’s are one of my favorites as well.
