National Grandparent Day!
Richly Middle Class would like to wish all the grandparents out there a wonderful Grandparent’s Day!
Sometimes we don’t value the role that grandparents have in our lives. If you know someone who is a grandparent, give them a ring today and tell them how much you appreciate them.

3.9 million (6 percent) children in the United States live in a grandparent’s home
670,000 children across the United States live in their grandmother’s home with neither their grandfather nor their parents present
One-half of grandchildren living in a grandparent’s home are younger than 6
U.S. Congress passed legislation in 1978 that the first Sunday in September would be National Grandparents Day.

Good Activities for Grandparent’s Day
Make a beautiful card for your grandparents.
Color a picture for Grandma or Grand-dad
Pick Grandma a bouquet from your garden.
Ask Mom and Dad if flowers are in the budget from grandma
Take grandpa for a walk
Make your grandparents a special meal
Skype with Grandma and Grandpa

And, most importantly, always remember to tell them how much you love them!

I love holiday like this. Thank you for posting. You never think about Grandparents Day because it is not so in the public eye. I did not know that it had been around that long. Thank you for the history of it. I love little facts that you can still in the back of your brain. Now I know that Grandparent’s Day was started in 1978. Great site. Looking forward to reading it again.

What a great tribute to Grandparents. I did not know they had a special day or that so many on them are caregivers to their grandchildren.

There are a lot of special grandparent out there who are taking on duel roles and dealing with aging issues as well. All grandparents that are trying to make a postivie change or would like too deserves a shout out at least once a year.
I sure miss mine, Grandparents can be the most wonderful relationship you’ll ever have!

I miss my grandparents as well. They were intrumental in my upbringing. I look at my child now and wish they were around. I miss the wisdom and my grandpa sense of humor.
